On Tuesday (February 21st, 2017) the C-46 Commando Airplane finally arrived to the Atlit Detention Camp, after a long journey from Alaska. The Council for Conservation of Heritage Sites in Israel, together with the Jewish National Fund-USA, and thanks to the generous support of Mr. Jack Grynberg (Denver, CO), is working to turn the airplane into an interactive exhibit describing the clandestine immigration by air. The C-46 airplane is the same model as the plane used to bring over 150 Jews, 100 from Iraq and 50 from Italy, in 1947. This brave mission was known as "Operation Michaelberg" and was led by Shlomo Hillel, today the President of the Council for Conservation of Heritage Sites in Israel.
